Thousands of people protested in different areas of Tehran on 20th June 2009. They were attacked and shot at by the armed forces. The streets of Satar Khan, second Aryashahr Square, Resalat Square, Tohid Square, Majidyeh Street and many more areas were the scenes of clashes between the protestors and the police force. People attacked the government institutions and smashed the bank’s windows. The demonstrators at Habiballah Street set a police motorcycle and a police van on fire. A military kiosk in the same street was also set alight by the protestors.
On this day, the Chamran motorway was also the scene of clashes between people and the anti riot forces where shots and tear gas were aimed at the protestors. Several people were killed by the police in Azadi Street and Yadgar Emam. During the past few days tens of people have been killed by the armed forces. The exact numbers killed are hard to know because of the censorship by the government. On orders of the Islamic regime, some medical centres are banned to treat the injured! The government controlled health insurance agency too has been ordered not to undertake the medical expenses of those injured in the demonstrations. According to some reports, several people have been killed in Buftabad and Falah crossing areas.
On 21st June around 4pm, a crowd of protestors gathered in Takht Tavoos Street. Other area (Azadi Square, Engelab Square up to Ferdosi Square, Vali asr crossing, and the side streets) too were full of anti riot police on their motorcycles, and plain clothes police. Today, like other days, the police helicopters hovered around these areas to identify the location of the protests in order to send more armed troops against the protestors. The government thugs and the anti riot police are showing signs of tiredness and lose of incentives. One can see fear, anxiety and confusion in their faces. Up to date, despite all the suppression and censorship, people’s moral is very high. One protestor said this is the volcanic explosion of 30 years of frustration of people. During the unrests, especially today, Persian language satellite TV channels, specifically Voice of America and BBC have not been completely available. The internet is mostly cut or works at very low speed.
Tonight, about 10 pm, thousands of people are raising their voice against the regime. People are chanting “Down with Dictator” and unfortunately still chant the reactionary slogan “Allah Akbar” (“god is great”).
People!
Throw out the slogan “Allah Akbar” and all Islamic symbols. All crimes have been committed in this society under this slogan. It has nothing to do with your demands and your deep hatred of the reactionary Islam. Chant against the entire state and the perpetrators of 3 decades of crime, poverty, dictatorship and gender apartheid. Chant against the Islamic Republic. Do not accept the slightest compromise with the Islamic regime. This regime must be overthrown. Organise. Build your work place and neighbourhood councils. Take the power from the criminals of Islamic regime by your mass will.
